Law and Gospel, justification by faith alone
What does this mean for faith and life?
Romans 8:28-39 is pure Gospel—we are justified (v.30) and therefore nothing can condemn (v.34). Our security rests not in our perseverance but in Christ's finished work. The golden chain is God's work, not ours.
Every verb is divine passive—God acts
Your security is outside you, in Christ
Because he finished it, nothing can undo it
συνεργεῖ can be "God works all things" or "all things work together" with God as agent
The aorist ἐδόξασεν (glorified) treats future as already accomplished
The list in v.35-39 represents every category of threat
